I've had a TomTom One XL for several years. It's ok unless you get into some back country areas. It'll try to send you down closed fire roads or onto offroad trails.

I believe the newer models have upgraded maps and better satellite reception so you might want to look for a model with newer technology and that is more advanced. There are quite a few on sale through the holidays.

Have one of the older "Go" models, that DB gave me. Works ok. Takes a while to synch up, but then again it's older and may not even have the latest firmware.

I drive a truck and dont use it, as GPS has got me into as much trouble, as out of it. GPS will route you down an alley, not taking into consideration, that you may be pulling a large trailer.

My first GPS was used with a laptop PC, so now looking at the tiny map on a portable GPS, is nearly useless.

Nice to have sometimes, as now many of the street signs, have been stolen for scrap, so they do a good job of identifying where you are at, including fog, at night, etc.

A worthy buy, for your DD, if the price is right. You can often get a new one for a few bucks more.

The Navigation app on my Droid works much faster and more accurate than any of the GPS's that i've previously owned.

I'll second that.... my droid outperforms in every aspect, and I traveled for a living for the last 9 years.

I hope your not paying anything more than like $40 or so, considering you can buy a brand new one for about $75.00.;)

the only thing i can say about a gps is be sure that you can upgrade the maps every year for free. i bought a nice garmin, lower end model that cannot be updated. 10 more buks and i could have gotten one that can be updated. it still works very well but on a trip to Ohio from Florida there was a few places that were blacked out from new construction.

Update; My little pop tart Stacey fell off her horse and broke her arm.

She's back home with her mother.

I've been bidding on every GPS unit known to man and losing out on every one of them.

Re: TomTom GPS ??

I'll tell you what I recommend. I got one of those 50 dollar, 7" GPS's from ebay. Yes, it comes from China, but who cares? It's a 7" touch screen with bluetooth, GPS, book reader, games, it runs Windows CE for crying out loud! It's an excellent gps and works fantastic. It even works inside the house!

All you have to do is type in 7" GPS on ebay and find one. It comes with a car power adapater, super quality window mount, it can take SD cards for map upgrades, it comes with a full USA map anyway with millions of POI's, etc. It's incredible really. I paid 49.99 for it with 60 shipping (yea I know but still) for a total of only 110 bucks. It's 4 times the size of a TomTom!

Here is one for an example:

http://cgi.ebay.com/7-0-Thin-Blueto...=190444259388&ps=63&clkid=5464873985506642467

Shipping from China takes about 3-4 weeks, but well worth the wait. You got a whole lot more than a GPS for half the cost of some of these GPS's with 2" screens.
