1990 15 hp long shaft motor. It was previously running 17 mph wide open throttle pushing my Jon boat. I ran some questionable gas through it, and I was needing to completely rebuild carb so I went ahead and did that. Also new fuel lines, new fuel pump, new cam roller, impeller, gear lube etc. I using the same bulb and tank I was when motor was running good, so I know problem isn’t with that. Actually tied second bulb/hose just to see and had same results. Motor will now run strong and throw water out of the bucket, but it will not do much of anything on water. I’ve got spark in both cylinders and 100/105 compression.

Slow river video is today, fast river video week or so ago

From videos, you are losing power to one cylinder. Check spark.. may be a fouled plug, or bad cd box.
cylinder drop test will confirm.

There are lots of exhaust bubbles in your bucket.-----Fooling you into thinking it has lots of power.----Agreed sounds like it is running on one cylinder or throttle cam might be broken..

I installed new spark plugs and throttle cam yesterday. Still having same problems. I’ve got spark in both cylinders although it might not be good spark only cheap auto store light bulb spark tester. Motor ran differently when I took boot off spark plug on both top and bottom. Neither cylinder has same sound without boot attached. I got shocked nicely while removing each of them.

Is it possible this problem is my lack of competence on how to adjust the throttle cam and throttle on armature? If I move the throttle cam by my finger I get plenty of power. No other time does this happen turning the tiller handle.

I got this fixed today. Luckily really easy fix and I actually caused the problem unknowingly. I put a zip tie around the throttle linkage and the little red stopper on the recoil to keep that red stopper out of the way. Starting motor was super easy, getting it to throttle up impossible. I was able to get my low speed idle dialed in and set up the synchronization through this mess so great learning experience. I was getting frustrated because nothing was making sense. My motor is like new at this point. All new fuel system ready to go!
