Too close to the side??

Have a SF188 Triton I intend to add trim-tabs to - probably the Smart-tabs SX. I've read several post that say mount them as close to the outside as possible. However most pictures I have seen posted show them about 1/2 way between the foot and the sides of the boat. Would , say an inch to 2 inches from the sides be too far out? Looks like the best place in my choices of mounting locations.

I would say post a picture here which would help. Also, you can contact the manufacturer direct to ask this same question.

Closest to the chines ("side") is best. The reason you see a lot of them mounted further inboard is that the rams hit underneath swinsteps or other transom mounted stuff. You want them outboard as the destructions recommend if there is room . . .
