Bought a Merc distributor cap on line, on the cheap. Guy says it's genuine merc and the pkg sure is. But the cap has aluminum posts and has no # on it. Do all merc caps have brass ? PN 8m0060495

Re: Too good to be true?

Thanks for that tidbit. My box is dated 7/21/11. Talked to Merc yesterday about this and the woman couldn't answer my question, but she did say that the part # has been superceeded again to 8m0061335, and that one does have brass contacts. To run it or not to run it, that is the question.

The new part number Merc gave you is currently out of stock at all Mercury warehouses. Estimated availability date is 06-DEC-2011, Plus I'm sure that estimated date will go up as time passes on as it usually seems to do for a while.

Without that new number they gave you there was no info in the system about the new number yet until i inputted in the new number then found that it has indeed superseded from the other two numbers, So a dealer would not know this yet unless they called like you did. It's to soon.

I'm sure the new one you have now will be just fine to run especially if you're old cap is giving you problems, But It's up to you if you can wait for the new one or not? Plus can you get your money back especially since if a merc dealer placed an order just for you right now you would receive the one you have now because they are still in stock.
