too long for resin recoat

I am new to this and live in the USVI where in spite of the location, materials and good advice are hard to find.I took the hypalon off a 14 ft RIB and used plywood to make a proper boat using the fiberglass structure from the RIB.I used polyester resin to "glue" the pieces together, ala stich and glue.I have coated all the ply with resin. My problem is that I got sick and had to wait 3 weeks before I can laminate the wood with resin and biax.How do I prepare the old surface before laminating, do I first wipe with acetone and sand or do I have to sand at all? The resin I used had no wax in it.<br />Thanx Slade

I would think it best to; clean (acetone), sand, clean (remove all sanding dust) and then start new. <br />You can get info here at Iboats by doing a search and you will get lots of good reading on do and don't on laminating, fiberglassing useing resin or going with epoxy.

Laminating resin will stay tacky for weeks...If it is still tacky you don't need to do anything but glass over it. If not tacky you need to sand and wipe down with styrene. Acetone works but styrene is superior because it chemically bonds old and new.
