I recently purchased a 1997 Spectrum 16ft boat with a 40 hp force engine....great so far...the boat was running about 4900 to 5000 rpms with 2 people in the boat....wow....then I discovered the throttle had not been opening up all the way since it came from the factory...now the rpms go up to about 5500...the book says they should be at 5250.....I have a 13pitch prop on now....What should I do so I will not hurt the motor....should I fix the throttle back so it will hang up like it did before....uhm.....Lee

Howdy, Spectrum.

Your question is in a gray zone between being a Boat Question and being and Outboard Trouble.

I think I would have posted it in the Outboard Troubles forum.

That said, You could probably do well with one or two inches longer pitch to pull your WOT rpm back into the correct operating range.

Good luck. :)

Check that Tach to make sure the voltage is all on the up and up. If all is well then follow JBs recomendations. You aren't pushing it to ridiculous levels at 250 above spec.

You should have a 14" pitch prop on your configuration. Used to work on this line of boats for customers and 14" is what THEY had on them.
