I have a 1980 Dynatrak 160 ss boat with a 1981 Johnson 115. I have had the boat for a little over a year. We have had the boat out many times, and it does great. The problem is, I found out recently that this particular boat is only rated for a 105. Is it safe to have the 115 on this boat? The boat seems to handle this motor fine.

Thanks

Ifya been runnin' it all along and your comfortable...leave it alone unless in Indiana they have some regulation that prohibits bigger motor than placarded. In most states it doesn't matter. The plate is C.G. guide and NOT federal law. The only qestion that arises in your case is the state laws. EX: in Florida you can do what ever you want....(within reason  )

I usually like to go by what the plate says, but you bought it that way and its working all right so I'd leave it alone.

If you're still concerned about it, you can check the plate for how much weight the boat is supposed to handle. Someone here will be able to give an approximate weight for that motor and you can add up the weight of the people and gear you haul and match it against the plate.

My guess is that a 1981 OB is no longer puttin out hp like it used to and if you get a ticket a dynomometer will get you out of jail free.

Thanks for the info guys. I am only able to read part of the plate. I contacted Ebbtide, and they were able to dig into the archives to give me the info that I needed.
