Ok guys, 1971Evinrude 100hp again...

I have dissembled both of my carburetors. The bowl looks clean, but has a little junk.

The seating for one of the slow speed needles is completely gone/dissolved. I can only pull junk out. WOW
I am pretty certian this was causing a rich condition and dropping my #3 cylinder.

Now, my service manual does not go into specifics nor does it show me what to clean. Where is the idle speed circuit? Where are the high speed jets? I am so confused right now...

I the last picture, the two metal disks on either side of the float tab are hiding your idle capillaries. The jets themselves should be accessible under an access screw on the outside of the carb body near the disks.

The mains are hidden in a similar fashion in the float bowl.

You'll need to make or buy a jet removal tool if you want to get those jets out. Search this site, there's lots of discussion on that.

Thank you for the clarification. I will need to remove them so I can blow them with compressed air.

Now I have found that both needle seating/retainers on the bottom carb are dissolved! The top ones are not much better, The rubber/plastic is just falling apart...wow.

Welcome to pre-ethanol carb parts. Modern kits will have ethanol-resistant parts.

Thats not a seat, it is one of the nylon lock nuts.

Ive removed the two metal disks for the idle speed jets following many useful threads on the subject.

Now, on the left side jets, there is a nick on the middle jet passage. Is this jet replaceable? And will this effect the proper function of the jets if I can not replace it?

Thanks guys.

They are not replaceable and its on the back side of the idle progression hole, nothing to worry about.

Alright, now I have a few things left from the carb kit - and I have NO IDEA where they go. I know a lot of you have done this many times, can someone kindly show me the way.

Ive made pics with easy outlines :

The kits usually apply to several years of carbs. You can expect a handful of extra bits that don't apply to yours.

One LAST question, bear with me guys, this is my first time cleaning carbs.

My manual tells me the orifice plugs are here. I do not have a fixed jet screwdriver, should I attempt to take it out with a regular small screwdriver? Does it twist off or just pull out?

I am pretty sure these are will be replaced by #6 on my little diagram above.

if you'll go to marineengine.com and find your motor..look at the carb diagram..your #6 is #39..needle valve bearing....that diagram may help you

Thank you! I see it now, however when I took the needles out there was no bearing. Should I assume its still in there?

Do you have the float mounted upside down?

No, I don't think so - the holes for the middle pin that goes trough are on the top. I messed with it a little more, and its almost parallel, and it click when pushed up. D you think it will function properly Daviet? Does it have to be 100% parallel?

You should be able to get a little bend on the stainless plates attached to the floats to get them parallel with the casting. If they are being difficult, a needle nose pliers should help.

Thank for all the help guys. I re-assembled both carbs and adjusted the needles via service manual. All works great now.
