1990 15 hp merc--had part of reed break--replaced both reeds--now top cyl is flooding--what controls fuel intake into cyl--could the broken part of reed be lodged in intake causing prob
thanks
The reed could be anyplace inside the crankcase or even inside a cylinder. Your best hope is that it passed out the exhaust port without causing any serious damage.

when the piston goes to compression on the up stroke it causes vacume in the crankcase sucking air fuel mix by the reeds on the down stroke the reeds close causing the crankcase to be pressirized the piston port opens letting the fuel mixture to enter the cyl. to be compressed and fire.----wish i was a better speller---bob
Reb,your carb also has a fuel pump built in.The pump works on engine impulse (piston going up and down).Pull of the carb, and if the impulse comes from the top cylinder...there is a hole in the mounting gasket that will tell you,you may have a bad fuel pump diaphram.
DHP
