Re: Torque Shift Prop

I had the Sunkhaze Maineiac out for a little fishing(got a 9lb. Northern) on Sunday.... After pulling the lines I decided to Play a little.....
Drop the throttle, Tach jumps to 4800rpms,. Boat takes off like a Bass after a Crawdad.... Pop on to plane, over trim the drive, prop up-shifts.... Trim down, tap-tap on the tabs.... I'm Sailing along at 43mph, 4650rpms.....
Yep, I can live with that...

Re: Torque Shift Prop

ddboater,
I have a question about your current stainless and the performance you're achieving with it. Your boat and mine are very similar in weight and hull design(my neighbor's son has a Baja like yours). I am thinking of getting a 13.75x21 stainless and I want to get more top end than my current 14.25x 21 alum. What top speed are you currently getting and at what rpm? I think our results will be very similar. Thanks for your help.
Brad

Re: Torque Shift Prop

Star-----I get 62 mph at wide open throttle---4800 rpm.---one person in the boat, full tank of gas, smooth water.

Under the same conditions, the torque shift should get me to 65 mph at 4600 rpm---when I get it adjusted properly.

Look at the Baja web site for specs----that last few mph comes from the position of the prop relative to the "pad" on the bottom of the boat. I can trim all the way up and not ventilate at all.

Your hull design might be different.

I should have said I can trim to the point where the trim limit switch stops the unit---the ride is stable----no ventilation or over-revving at WOT.

Re: Torque Shift Prop

dd,
Thanks for the reply. I think I may need to get a gps speed reading because I am only getting 55mph at the speedometer at 5200 out of mine. My boat may be slightly wider at 8'6" beam and slightly flatter hull which would put more surface area down but should be close in weight. Let us know how the torque shift works and I might take a look at that. I have a neighbor with a 14x21 stainless that he used twice and will sell for $200. I think I need to try it out once we get nice weather up here. Good luck. :)
