torque values

Hello. I am in the process of putting back together a 4 hp Evinrude (4206S) that I have been working on in an effort to fix a compression problem. I had removed both the cylinder head and exhaust plate and am wondering if someone can help with the torque values of the bolts for both and tightening sequence. All I have is a Seloc manual and it does not refer to either.

Thanks again

Re: torque values

The torque value for the head should be in the manual. However, when torque value is not specified in the manual, I use this chart which is usually found in an OMC manual:

No.6 ----7-10 in/lbs (.8-1.2 Nm)
No.8 ----15-22in/lbs (1.6-2.4 Nm)
No.10 ---25-35in/lbs (2.8-4.0 Nm)
No.12 ---35-40in/lbs (4.0-4.6 Nm)
1/4" -----60-80in/lbs (7.0-9.0 Nm)
5/16" ---120-140in/lbs (14.0-16.0 Nm)
3/8" -----220-240in/lbs (24-27 Nm)

On tightening sequence, you're on your own. Just tighten from the inside out.

Re: torque values

Check appendix A-3. Heads bolts are 60-80 inch lbs. Retorque after a few warmup/cool down cycles.

Do you have a plan for the bottom two head bolts?

Re: torque values

Thanks guys. No Paul I don't have a plan and I'm not looking forward to getting those 2 bolts back in as, if I recall right, it was a little tricky getting them out...is there an easier way?

Thanks again
