I went to Big Lots tonight and as usual I cruised the tool/automotive section to see if there was anything good. To my surprise they had Stanley torque wrenches for $18. It goes from 20-100 ft/lbs and has a plastic case. It can be calibrated too. Pretty good deal for us regular joes needing to use one occasionally. They had 6-8 of them left.

Not bad at all if you're like me and just need to torque your outboard flywheel, head bolts, lug nuts, motorcycle axle, etc...

Sorry Mods: I meant to post this in NBTT. Please move it.

Re: Torque Wrench

Looks like a good deal, heck if you drop it, throw it a way and buy another one,:)

Re: Torque Wrench

Most of the time torque values are set in 5 lb increments ie 40-45. Set it for 42 or 43 and go to work, it'll be accurate enough. As said before if it breaks it was cheap. I'd use it for a break over bar before throwing it away though.

Word of advice here- Be sure to always wind it back down to 0 before putting it up.

Re: Torque Wrench

Little update...

I just shot my buddy at Wheelabrator an email about the wrench. He told me to bring it in and the guys in the instrument shop will calibrate it for me. It'll be interesting to see how far off it is if at all.
