What do you call a Torx style fastener that has a raised center inside it requiring a bit with a hollow tip?

Yep! Those are they! Thanks. I'll have to pop on down to HF and pick up a set.

Re: Torx style bits?

I have cheaped out on those torx bits in the past and you kind of get what you pay for it seems. The tamperproof bits have the hole offset from center etc and I have flat out broken some of the larger ones from just moderate turning effort.
I am sure that somebody makes the quality bits at a fair price but I bought my tamperproof set from NAPA and another set from Craftsman and they work very well.
I have a set from Wiha tools that I use for computer/camera repair that are like nut drivers starting from T1 and up.I also bought a set of those from Craftsman which I am not too pleased with as the handles break off on them from normal use so there you have it.
If there is a chance to do damage that might be expensive to repair from using a marginal tool I choose to not take that chance, the extra money that the better tool costs is a wise investment in my book.Ron G
