I've just put new head-gaskets on my 1988 Johnson 150 GT and have replaced both exhaust cover gaskets. I got the tourque correct on my head-gaskets (ft lbs) but do not have (in.lb) tourque wrench (cost $69). Is there a conversion from (ft lbs) to (in lbs). The (in lbs) for exhaust cover bolts is 60-84 (in lbs). What would that convert to in (ft lbs), if it were even feasable.

That converts to 5-7 ft lbs. ft/lbs = inch/lbs divided by 12.

Unfornetly, most ft-lb reading torque wrenches are *very* inaccurate at those ranges. You'd probably be better off guessing as a matter of fact.
Some tool rental places can rent you one pretty cheap.

PS - I've found mine to be off by over 100% at the far end of it's range after calibrating it at the mid-point.

Listen to Paul on this, and go by feel. These are 1/4-20 bolts going into aluminum, don't get heavy handed.

And $.02 more....tighten them down in two stages. The exhaust covers are prone to leaking. So the more even the tightening sesquence, the less chance of leakage.
