I have a 2008 Ford Escape with the V6 and auto trans. I'm thinking of buying a boat that ways about 1400# with the trailer. I make 3 trips a year to the June Lake Loop in the Sierras. Do you think this will be OK? I'm currently towing a tinny that weighs only about 500#. The owners manual says I can tow up to 3500#. Thanks for your input.

Re: Tow vehicle

I think you will be fine. Its in spec for the Escape.

Is it just me or did I see this same exact thread a few days ago?

Re: Tow vehicle

this ISN'T a 1400 lb boat.... It was GUESSTIMATED to be 1400 lbs PLUS trailer fuel batteries gear etc... You are most likely under your weight rating BUT:

I suggest that while going on the test drive have it pulled over a scale and get actual weight..... You are likely still ok but for no more than about $10 and a few minutes time you can know the exact weight for sure.

Do you already have a boat picked out? If so ask the owner/dealer if you can give it a test tow to see if your vehicle is adequate.
If it tows well and you feel comfortable with it, all is good. Recommendations are fine for a ballpark answer but until you get a real life, tactile feel you do not know for sure.
