Out of nowhere while up on a plane she slows down a little and drops out of gear. I tried to put her in forward or reverse and it's as if she is in neutral. Tilt the out drive up and put it in gear with engine off and the prop locks. Just changed the shift cable and that seems fine. Also changed pump and I noticed she heated up to 200* just before I shut her off. It's almost as if the shaft isn't turning. Could it be a broken ujoint? Or is my drive hosed? Or anything else. She cruised out to the fishing spot no problem and went in and out of reverse no problem and I had been driving a good 10 minutes without any increase in temp just till she lost engagement somewhere.

guessing you have an alpha (based on signature)

if you lost your coupling, you will loose drive and you will loose cooling

when was the last time you aligned the drive/motor?

Did you install the pump correctly and refill the drive and pressure test?

FedEx lost my alignment tool for a month and the drive shaft slipped in fairly easy but I couldn't align it and I know that's a bad decision. The pump was cooling much better up until this happened. Before I installed the new pump she was getting up to 180 after she was at 165. No I did not pressure test. Im afraid it might be the coupling. Will get her on the trailer and pull the drive.

Reach around the back of the engine where the shaft engages the coupling, gooey black or shreds of aluminum then the coupling gave up.
