Re: towing 3000#s

I don't tow with a Tundra so I suppose I should stay outta this, but I would think just about any Tundra could pull 3000lbs. The newer ones can pull a house with its foundation so if you're looking at a newer one it should be a non-issue.

3000lbs really ain't much, especially for a full-size truck.

My Brother has a 2010 Tundra He tows a ~5000# Jayco Travel trailer all over the country. He hasn't complained yet.

I have a 2008 FJ Cruiser (4.0 V6), I towed my neighbor's 4500# Mercedes through the Adirondack Mountains on a tow dolly, hardly felt it.

I pull my 30 ftr 4x a year and it weighs in at 12500lb's. Truck is rated at 10800lbs towing. I know it's overloaded but i only pull it 10 miles each time. I installed air bags to help with rear end drop. It tows fine and stops well but you can't be towing this load fast on busy streets.

You don't say what engine with the tundra but ANY tundra can pull over 3,000 lbs with the right tow kit. My Tacoma can pull, and does pull very well, 5,000.

If it won't I don't know what will. The 2012 Tundra has the highest towing capacity of anything out there......25000Lbs with a class V fith wheel hitch!!

umm yeah no.... 2012 tundra has a max payload of 1550 pounds, so you would have to figure out a way to have a 25000 5th wheel that only puts 1500 pounds max on the bed of the truck. That puts you around 10,000 pounds of 5th wheel.

Sorry to tell ya if you get the 5.7L v8 standard cab you get the highest tow rating 10.400 lbs. With the tow package it has a 2090 payload. But that has to be reduced by passengers and cargo. so take out a minimum of 400 (150 lb driver, 200 pound hitch, 50 lbs for misc stuff). Now at 1690. Using a conservatively low rate of 20% pin weight and your at 8450 for a fiver.

And what is a "Class V fifth wheel hitch"? A class V hitch is a below bumper hitch using a ball. A fifth wheel hitch does not have a class just a weight rating.

Re: towing 3000#s

..................anyway, my boat with gas and gear is approx 3,000lbs on the trailer and I tow with a 2010 double cab 5.7 4x4 Tundra. I have had no problems and would buy the same truck all over again for a tow vehicle. I average about 14.5 mpg while dragging the boat behind me. My usual lake is about 40 miles away, mostly highway. I've also towed a 10ft v-nose trailer at (I'm guessing) about the same weight for a 2,000 mile round trip with no issues.

Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra has a conventional towing capacity of 9,000 pounds. With fifth-wheel Class V towing, that capacity increases to 25,000 pounds. Class V towing requires the use of a special hitch.

just because ehow says it, it don't make it true. Especially when Toyota's website says different. They also say it can outow a dodge ram 3500 by 6000 lbs. Seriously, you believe that.

I'm with brian, unless the 3500 had a slant 6 and not a 5.9 or 6.7 Cummins.

My V8 4Runner has a tow cap of 7500 lbs. Any Tundra with any engine will pull 3000 no prob. Like others have said.

There's no way in hell I'd tow 7500lbs with a 4runner. That's ludicrous.

Yes - see my signature.

Yes I would recommend them over a GM product. The Tundra replaced my '04 1500 GMC Sierra ext cab Z71 w/5.3L and 3.73:1 gearing. The Sierra struggled with my current boat. The Tundra pulls like a champ and then some.

And just for the record, I have pulled my boat with a new '12 Avalanche with 5.3L, 4x4, and 3.42:1 gearing (twas a 6 speed). That truck hunted gears. Ride quality was nice but it definitely had some issues pulling uphill as compared to the Tundra.

Back to what the OP was requesting....I was just making a point of the extreme capabilities of the Tundra. What he is wanting to tow easily falls into that lower range. My neighbor recently traded his RV for a much larger one(class 5 fifth wheel hitch) that exceeded the limits of his Dodge Ram. He was told by the RV dealer that the Tundra was one of the few pickups that could pull this RV. Toyota built a concept dully Tundra straight six cylinder diesel with a rated tow capacity of 24000 Lbs. I would love to see that go into production!

Re: towing 3000#s

I just read that they're going to tow THE SPACE SHUTTLE with a Tundra.

Still, it's just a "toy" truck. It can't carry my Lance camper and pull my 4,000 pound boat. My F-250 does that. An F-350 can carry the Tundra, AND pull a boat.
