I'll be towing my wooden Jon boat with my 5 1/2 hp motor on it, question isn't would I need a transom saver. I was planning on tying it down in some way. This the first time trailering this boat. Thanks

If the foot has sufficient ground clearance in the down position then maybe just secure the motor with a bungee cord to keep it from flopping/moving around while you're towing it....if ground clearance is not sufficient then maybe use a block of wood and bungees to hold it up......

Thanks to both of you, one more question- do either of you know how much pressure or stress is on the transom when I'm in the water and under way, thanks

A 5-1/2 HP motor can't be too heavy nor should it produce a transom-busting amount of thrust....so if your transom is good and sound there should be no problems....

As far as the stresses on the transom you can think of it this way,... How much force do you think it takes to push the boat though the water, fully loaded at full speed, now apply that force as a 'twisting' force on the transom and that's reasonably close to your answer. In short, quite a bit.
