Towing Capacity

I've got an old ('78) Dodge 1/2 ton PU with a newly rebuilt 360 engine w/4 bbl carb & auto trans. Any ideas what the towing capacity/limits might be? BTW it's got a transmission oil cooler.<br />Thanks,<br />Backlash

Hi, Backlash.<br /><br />You certainly have enough power to pull a lot, but with drum brakes (power?) a half ton pickup probably isn't safe to tow over 3,000LB..<br /><br />Check the doorjamb sticker for weight limitations vs. empty weight.<br /><br />Good luck.

Thanks for the prompt reply JB. It's got power disc (front) brakes but the doorjamb sticker is unreadable. <br />Backlash

In that case, Backlash, I would guess at 5,000lb.

Roger JB,<br />I don't intend to tow anything more than 3500 max with that rig but it'll give me some peace of mind to know I'm not exceeding the 85% rule. <br />Thanks again,<br />Backlash
