I have a 2002 Kia Sedona. I know it has lots of bad publicity for gas mileage and other stuff.
Its a heavy car. GVWR: 5787 LB

How big of a load can I tow safely with such a car?
Assume that I have adequate tow hitch setup.
The car moves along nicely with a 3.5L 6 cyl. motor on everyday driving.

Check with a Kia dealer. There is a chance that towing is not recommended.

According to autos.msn.com, your towing capacity is 3500 lb. Fairly typical for a minivan.

Yes, but.....
It depends a lot on whether or not the car has a factory heavy duty tow package, proper hitch, electricals, etc.
I had a truck once without a factory package, and it struggled at towing 2/3 the "rating". My expedition is rated at 8900# with the 5.7 and factory H/D package, which it has, and tows about 7800 quite well.
However, Ford rates the same vehicle with a 4.6L and no package at 4000#.. Big difference
Consult the dealer. They can pull up the factory pick list for that car and accurately tell you what its capible of.
