Toxic Hull Cleaner

Bought a bottle of cleaner called Toon-Bright to clean the bottom/waterline of what i would describe as pond scum. This product contains two types of acid. Can anyone give me a bit of info on the best way to use this product? I would think that a scrub brush would be needed but the directions state spray on, let it work, and rinse off. Right now in OH it is too cold to try it out as the temps need to be 40 degrees or better for the product to work. I hate winter! Thanks Mitch. There are at least several spray/brush on cleaners that work very well. Attwood Hull Cleaner is one of them. Not familiar with Toon brite other than having heard the name. Use it as per the instructions. Chances are, it'll work as claimed. There may,of course, be some spots which will need a little more attention. Try scrubbing with a brush if so. Let us know how it works.

Yup, by the time you spray it on around the hull, it's time to rinse it off. Can't wait until spring here also, plan on doing ours then, too.

Wear gloves & goggles.

This stuff, like most on the market, looks a lot like our old friend Muriatic acid, available at any pool store for $5 a gallon. Thin it out at least 5:1 to clean a hull.

For a pontoon it is a different acid than the fiberglass hull cleaner.

It is an etching acid and is made to brighten aluminum.
Same stuff used on fuel tanks and wheels of big trucks.
The best way is to go to a car wash.Spray the acid on in sections and rinse it right back off with the pressure sprayer.
The toons will look new.

Great advice above... I'll just add one thing; unhook your boat from your truck and move it out of the way when using any kind of acid that sprays on. You don't want to get any over-spray on your tow rigs paint.

This is one reason I like the FSR product. You paint it on with a brush and then rinse it off. It eliminates the chance that the wind will carry the product to my tailgate.

hi i pulled my boat out of the water this year pressure washed it hull still looked dirty ran to boating store bought what the guy recomended some cleaner with acid like 25 bucks for a small bottle it did next to nothing out of desperation i had a bottle of CLR in the truck tried spraying some on wiped it off in 30 seconds area was perfect any tough spots i used a brush worked great for me !!!!!!! good luck

We do a lot of toon cleaning hear, we have very green lakes.

Get a one to two gal plastic weed sprayer. And a rubber respirator with charcoal filters. Your lungs will love you for this.
If your toons are really bad I would use one gal cleaner not cut. Or you can cut it. It's up to you.
Before going to the car wash soak the toons with the garden hose,I have found that the scum comes off better when wet.
Fill the sprayer and adjust to a heavy mist pattern, spray the toons I like to let it sit for 5min or so then hit it with the a very coarse scrub brush then the pressure wand.
Then if you have spots left repeat.

This product is called Toon Brite. It is made to clean fiberglass boats. The name is a bit misleading as it has nothing to do with the cleaning of alluminum pontoon boats. But after reading ones repley that this product is nothing more than muratic acid that can be bought at a swiming pool store for 5 bucks a gallon, it is quite apparent that i was bent over by my local boat store. Product came to me @ 22 bucks for a Quart, that can be dilluted to make 3 quarts. Ouch!
