My inlaws are looking to buy a Matrix XR and want me to help them find one. (They don't speak English very well.) I was wondering if anybody here owns one or has info on them. Were they built in Japan? Do they have the same quality as the other toyota products?
Thanx for any input!

Re: Toyota Matrix

When I was in the car business we sold a few used ones and also ones badged as the Pontiac Vibe. Same exact car good toyota quality. Being able to find a Vibe might broaden your search.

Re: Toyota Matrix

I currently drive a Vibe, and it has performed very well for me. Currently I have just over 100k miles. Ditto what Bob_VT said on the similarities; the only real difference is exterior styling.
The Vibe is built in California at the Nummi plant (joint venture between GM and Toyota) which also builts Tacomas. The Matrix is built in Cambridge ON. I believe that the Cambridge plant also builds Corollas and Lexus RX330s.
Both the Vibe and Matrix are based off of the Corolla platform.

Re: Toyota Matrix

My wife drives a 2205 Matrix XR and she loves it. Gets good gas mileage -about 29 mpg combined city, highway--and quality is typical Toyota. Very comfortable on a 2000 mile trip to North Carolina last summer. Lots of pep averaging 70-80 mph on the interstates. We recommend it.

Re: Toyota Matrix

Thanks for all the info folks. :) My brother in law is coming up tonight and will probably purchase one here tomorow. It seems to be a decent car. He's looking for an XR, I talked with a dealer here and after much negotiating he said he'll get him a fully loaded, brand new XR for $20,000 out the door. Hopefully he'll keep his word. My mother in law will be paying, and if she doesn't get exactly what she wants she'll walk away.
