I keep forgetting to post this.
My 1989 Toyota Corolla, when started cold, sputters(or misses), but then after warming up for 2-3 minutes, starts to run fine. No more sputtering or missing.
Any ideas?

It's an automatic. I changed the plugs 2 weeks ago. That's about it.

Thanks for any advice.
B.C.

Is it fuel injected? maybe a can of seafoam to clean the injectors.

Plug wires possibly. Sometimes when you move the wires around (especially if they never been replaced) will cause cracks in the silicone conductor. When cold they don't conduct too well so when they warm up they work better. Just a thought to pass on. Best to check them with an ohm meter, when they're cold of course. Good luck

-Does it run fine if you give it a slight amount of throttle when this happens?
-Is it worse on humid mornings?

Fuel filter change? Ever run a product like Techron to help keep the injectors clean? Clean air filter? A 17 year old Toyota should run right

If carb---cap, rotor, and plug wires, or the choke pull-off is not working.

EFI---cap, rotor, and plugwires, or coolant temp sensor out of range...possible bad connector or sensor

Either way, plug wires need checking.

Sorry it took so long to reply. My water lines burst and I have been trying to fix them before I got to this.
The toyota has a carb.
Schematic: No, it still misses when I give it gas.
No difference on humid mornings either.
The air filter does need replacing....I looked at it and it is filthy.
I will change the air filter first and if it still does it, the general consensis is the plug wires.
Thanks fellas, I will post if I have any more problems after the air filter and plug wire change.
B.C.

Hi
I doubt that its wires if it clears up when warm. The carb has a choke shaft that may stick when cold. There also is a choke break (pull-off) diaphram that may be defective.
