In searching online I see there are differences between types of leaf springs. Apparently some are meant for cars and smoother ride but not for loads of trailers. I really don't know the type I have here other than I assume it is an older type. This is a lightweight trailer and 14' aluminum boat. Plus I gather the axle size and type has bearing on the spring choice as well.

It appears there's a center location button to center the location of the axle on the spring. However in looking at the mounts I am uncertain how to measure if they are at the proper location on each side of the trailer. I need to know from what point to what point to measure to compare the axle/spring location on each side of the trailer, so I can be sure they were located the same distance from a given point on the trailer to either the front of the spring or the rear of the spring.

I will also need to know how precise those measurments need to be as compared from one side of the trailer to the other to not have to cut spring shackle welds off and relocate and or replace whole assemblies. The tires don't have obvious uneven wear but I haven't had the boat and trailer long and would like to double check this concern while the boat is off the trailer waiting on a tongue replacement to be completed. Let me know if other pix are needed to answer the questions.

Re: trailer axle and spring alignment questions

From the look of your pictures I'd say that is a home made trailer. You might want to consider buying a better trailer. For a 14 foot aluminum boat you can pickup a good trailer pretty cheap.

Pull it down the road and look at it in the side mirrors... If it tracks straight behind the tow vehicle the axle is plenty straight.
If you need new springs order them from a trailer parts supplier by length and weight of the trailer plus the boat, motor, fuel, and all gear that will be aboard.
