I have an EazyLoader trailer with electric brakes. First 3 years they worked well but now they are hit and miss. Do they just use the same magnets on boat trailers as holiday trailers or are they supposed to be water proof? I dump into the chuck all the time and was going to take them apart this spring and rebuild. The trailer came with oil filled hubs, and they are the best, the only way to go. At a glance you can see oil level or contamination, never had a failure there.

Yep, you are going to have to take the drums off and check them out. Likely very corroded inside. There's a possibility you have an electrical issue as well so may need to check all your wire connections.

Re: Trailer Brakes Electric

I recently reworked my neighbor's tandem axle trailer that used electric brakes. He is having some serious health issues and can't do those things anymore. Three of the four were completely rusted solid and would not even try to move anymore. It took me a few hours each to free them up and remove everything, clean them, de-rust them (if that's even a word) and check them out. The magnets were still workable after cleaning them up. You can take an ohm meter and read them to see of they are still good (reading continuity) or opened or even shorted. If they are still okay clean everything inside the drums and lube the pivot areas with some light grease (not too much) and then reassembly them and test them. If you decide to purchase new magnets you could even apply some liquid tape to the area where the wires go into the magnets to help make them more water resistant. Just a little work and everything should come back alive again... You might want to check them ever year as part of your yearly trailer maintenance checkup... JMHO!

Think about adding one of those brake flushing kits to flow fresh water inside the brake housing after your dunking.

.

Hopefully, proper brake inspections / wheel hub mtce is being done.

Lots of U-Tube clips showing electric brake inspection / cleaning tasks.

For recommended MTCE Schedule of trailer electric brakes, surf:

To improve the performance of electric brakes, I also recommend the removal of its factory linear wiring scheme and replace with 10 gauge thicker wire runs in a STAR configuration. re:

If wondering, I always replace factory linear design with much better STAR design on my Travel Trailer, utility trailer and boat trailer. Before and after results are amazing. And, STAR design is much safer and "balanced" wiring design as well.

Works for me....
