Trailer Button Doesn’t Work

Just bought a 96 Four Winns Horizon with a 5.0 EFI. Has a few quirks, one being the trailer button doesn’t work. Trim works just fine, up and down, but trailer button does absolutely nothing. I know that it moves the drive up a few more inches for trailering, but I can’t help but feel that those extra few inches are gonna get expensive at the wrong launch. Am I wrong to be paranoid about it not working? The lower unit is new as of 2014 and was professional installed. Also feels like the boat has a hard time planing off, even with the drive completely down. She rides pretty high for a whole before she does. Not sure if this is related at all, but thought it might be helpful information.

Will the trailer button bring the drive up if it is already down? If not the switch may not be connected

Merc or volvo ? And can you post a couple pics of the drive full up and full down. As for the planning what size and pitch is the prop ?
