Trailer coupler replacement

I have a little dude trailer, that has a damaged coupler. I have a new coupler ready to install. I would like to know the best length of the main beam for the best towing/launching. I have to cut off the old welded coupler and then weld on my replacement. My tow vehicle is a Chevy Astro van. the present beam length seems really long. I know this makes backing up while turning a bit slower with this long beam. Any advise before i cut would be greatly appreciated. Launching with a windowless cargo van is always a challenge. Thanks Mitch.

Re: Trailer coupler replacement

The longer beam does make it slower but it makes backing alot easier. Make it long enough to keep you tires / brakes out of the water.
