My 1998 f150 has lost power to the harness connector on the runnig light plug, This is a factory wire job, I traced the wires back some but then it started to rain, can I get a new harness and plug it in like the aftermarket ones ? what else should I check? Thanks

Check your manual I'm not sure what year it started but the newer Ford F series have a fused circut for the trailer harness.

Re: Trailer harness has no power for running lights

Just had the same problem with my '02 F-150. Turns out that inside the trucks connector is another "pinned" connector that corroded. I do salt water in the winter and this must have gotten to it? I replaced the connector with one from a NAPA store but later found the same thing at Wally World for a buck less - - ($9.00)

Anyway, this new one has screw terminals inside. I've installed this kind before and never had a problem. In my opinion, you're better off to replace it, if you're comfortable doing it.

There is a 20 amp fuse (yellow color, ATC type fuse) in the fuse box under the hood that provides power for the trailer lights. Use a voltmeter to check for 12 volts between the white and brown trailer wires with the lights turned on.

Cold water on hot bulbs is a good way to pop them so disconnecting the harness is the recommended procedure.
