Trailer Jack Relocation

Hey folks,

I needed to move my trailer jack due to installation of a bow guard. I have a tahoe q4 2007 factory trailer with surge brakes and swing away tongue. The height of the tongue is 5.25 inches and there are no Jacks in that size. I cannot install it anywhere else other than the tongue.

I drilled and bolted a new jack to the side of the tongue. Will this cause any issues?

Well.. the time to ask was before drilling.

Probably no issue for several years at least. The tongue of the average boat trailer can rust halfway through before there's a problem.

Thanks for the reply. I'm in Canada and the trailer is still in great shape. I am concerned about weight distribution and possible twisting of the tongue. The steel seems quite thick on the tongue.

Just keep an eye on it for distortion, cracks or corrosion, any welding shop can fix it if you have a problem

I would paint or use an undercoating to seal the freshly drilled holes to slow down any corrosion. As far as weakening the steel tubing.....I doubt it very much that a couple holes will cause any problem other than corrosion. Now...if it looks like a piece of swiss cheese then we may have another issue!!
