MY trailer lights last about 3 trips to the lake . I back the trailer in and the water kills the bulbs . Is there a fix for this besides raising the light above the water level ? I used my dads boat alot when I was younger and never had this trouble with his trailer so I'm really puzzled as to why its happening
Thanks

Re: Trailer light trouble

Change the seals. They cost about a nickel. Get some blue RTV and seal up any other cracks or ways water might get in.

Disconnect the trailer harness before you back in. You have your foot on the brake -- bulbs are hot -- cold water -- pop goes the bulb. Takes two seconds to disconnect the harness.

Switch out to LEDS. Then you don't have to worry about disconnecting the harness.
LEDS still use the 12V from the tow vehicle.

+1 for seals

either fix it, replace it, or unplug it. LED'S are nice but at the cost you may find your self replacing with the same type you have now. as for the fix i wasnt aware that you could do much to reseal them, untill "33993" post still unsure about that. if you unplug your lights 2-3 minuites before you back into the water they shouldn't blow.

Seal them or just replace them. I like to leave them plugged in especially at night when I load the boat. Makes for a great runway...

Re: Trailer light trouble

check the seals on the lights, most likely water is getting in and shocking, killing the bulbs. The cheap fix is unplug the lights while your getting ready to launch, by the time your back from boating you will be ready to go, just replug and go...Get some electrical grease and put on the back of the bulbs and replace the seals if you dont want to mess with unplugging.

Silvertip's reply is why your bulbs don't last.
