trailer load requirements question

can any one tell me the rule of thumb for buying a new trailer using your total weight combination ? i think the dealer is trying to sell me one much heavier rated because thats all they have in stock.

I always opt for larger when practical.
Better construction, heavier components, wider and lower means easier loading, etc.

More details on what you want, and what he is selling, would be helpful.

Read the specs for the trailer or look at the capacity tag on the trailer.. LOAD CAPACITY is the weight the trailer is capable of hauling. That includes the boat and everything in or on it. GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating) is the total weight capacity of the trailer including its load, the weight of the trailer, and everything in or on the boat (gas, batteries, gear, etc). GVWR and Load Capacity are limited by tire size (weight capacity of the tires) and the axle capacity. Single axle trailers are typically limted to GVWR of about 3500# because that's the capacity of the axle. If you need more than that you are in tandem axle territory.
