Hello everyone. My wife and I just purchased our 2006 Four Winns Horizon 200 and we cant wait to pick it up in a couple of weeks. We will be keeping it at a rv and boat storage lot down the street. The lot is completely gated and seems to have good security. We still want to do all we can to keep it safe. Any advice on coupler locks, wheel locks (its a tandem axle), spare tire locks, etc.

Re: Trailer Locks?

Welcome to iboats!
Boats that are stolen around here are sometimes recovered with the coupler locks still intact. They just hooked the safety chains to the hitch and hauled the rig off. Most auto parts, Wally-Worlds and sporting goods stores sell all of the items you listed but as to which is the best, I dunno. We have 70,000 members at iboats and each one will give you a different recommendation. ;)

Get her insured before you even move it and see if the lot has insurance as well. If it were me, I'd get a large "boatbag" and keep any high-theft items with me when I left: Prop, electronics etc. They'll be the first to go. Not trying to raise your blood pressure or anything, best to be prepared for the worst and celebrate calm seas. :)

-and congrats on the boat too!

spots

If thieves want it -- they will get it so the less you leave in the lot the less they can get. Outdrives are gone in minutes. Props in seconds. Loose items walk off by themselves. Add wheel locks including one for the spare. If the trailer has a swing tongue, remove it and take it with you.

Get insurance, then add a few measures to make it unattractive. It's all you can do. A chain through the wheels is just one inconvenience. Of course, taking off the wheels is good, but a pain to do every time.
