the trailer under the larger boat in my sig needs some work, its painted steel and welded solid, its a good trailer but it needs to be sandblasted and painted soon or i fear it will be too late to save. i launch 99% in salt water- am i wasting my time trying to save a non galvanized trailer? the other question is after renting moorage and doing the work on the trailer would i be better off just buying a new(er) one? i havent priced anything yet so i dont know what i could expect to pay. thanks

price what it will cost, then look for galved or aluminum trailer. i have a 40 year old salt water galvanized trailer, i just converted to a utility trailer. had to put a new axle under it.

In the long run you will have less problems if you buy a galvanized trailer. Salt water is rough on painted trailers. An aluminum trailer would be nice, but one to fit a 22' boat is going to be rather expensive. And salt does attack the aluminum too, especially after the anodized finish gets scratched up a bit. But the weight savings is nice to have for fuel economy and its easier on your tow vehicle.
