One of my neighbors just gave me a functional fish finder. It's a Hummingbird 100SX. The problem is that he cut the transduser cable when removing it from his old boat.

Can that cable be repaired via traditional wire repair? I see it's set up like a co-ax cable but that's no big deal. I'm just curious if soldering the wires back together and all that will fix it or it will now be a problem because of added resistance or something.

I don't want to spend any kind of time messing with this thing if the cable isn't repairable. I'd rather buy a new unit than get a replacement cable for this thing.

Re: Tranduser cable repair

I have been cutting and reattaching transducer wires to avoid drilling large holes in the past.
1.)Cut the insulation away to expose the wires inside the cable. 2.)Solder the 3 wires together (or as many as you have keeping the colors match).
At this point it is not possible to use heat shrinking tube for insulation because of the lack of room. You will be fine with electrical tape to isolate the wires from shorting out with each other.
3.) Smoothen/spread out the outside layer of shielding /grounding wire net to cover the splice as much as possible.
(Apply dielectric grease optional) and wrap aluminum foil over the repaired area then use previously slid-on heat shrinking tube to finish the job.
You will be happy with the results.
