I have mounted a new transducer 12 inches from center line of boat. And since mounting the transducer it seems when the motor running at wot it loses thrust. Could this be because of the transducer location or something I'm not seeing? Any and all help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Is the transducer mounted on the transom or thru the hull?

NO,NO,NO!!! what we have here is a coincidence .Look else wheres, you would of had to of put on one massive transducer to affect motor thrust.

It is mounted on the transom. I didn't think a transducer would affect the motor like that. It is almost like it is what they call porpoising i think.

Porpoising is the bouncing effect you feel as the bow rises and falls. You adjust the trim setting to compensate for that. In some cases it is necessary to raise or lower the engine on its mounting along with trim settings.

Thanks Silvertip for the response. Along with the bow rising and falling would the motor sound like its losing power and then getting it back. Almost like it is pulsating but tbe rpms don't seem to change while doing it.

Please don't take this wrong. Are you a rookie boater/owner?If you trim in your motor a bit the proposing should disappear along with your pulsing.

82rude. Yes i have just recently bought my first boat. Its a 2000 procraft pro 165 with a 75 mercury on it. When i first bought it it was pulsating. That is before I figured out about the trim. I also added a hydrofoil to the motor at the same time. I have adjusted using the trim and it seemed to run good for a couple weeks but for some reason it is back to pulsating or surging when I got to wot. However when i run it at about 3/4 throttle (3800-4000 rpm's) it seems to run fine. I am just trying to figure out if it is a motor issue or operator issue. Thanks for all the advice.

Most likely op issue, lol. When you first take off trim all the way in to get on plane faster, then trim out till you find your best running postion. It may take a little while to master but you will .You would be much better served with nauticus trim tabs than one of those whale tales imho.

Thanks for the input 82. After posting last night i stsrted to read threads and it appears that the hydrofoil is more of a bandaid to hide the problem rather than fix it and could cause more bad than good. I beleive I will remove the hydrofoil before i take it out next. Also with removing the hydrofoil will the holes left cause any issues? Sorry for some many questions and thank you for all of your help.

As a starting point use a straight edge to make the vent plate on your OB level with the bottom of the hull, perhaps parallel would be the better word. When adjusting the trim while underway a small movement can make a big difference. You might be trimming to much at a time and missing that sweet spot. Also look at the prop itself and see that there is no damage to the blades, you would be surprised at how much a good nick, break or bend in a blade can cause ventilation issues. Watch your tach when making trim adjustments, it will gain rpm slightly when on the sweet spot along with speed going up slightly, if your not in your sweet spot both rpm and speed will drop. It will take some time playing with this for you to figure it out as a new boater. By the way....welcome aboard !!
