Currently my transducer for the fishfinder is mounted outside the boat. I'd like to know if epoxying it to the floor would work just as well. Where its at now I get false readings in shallow water and high speeds. Would a floor mount help this? Also what kind of glue should I use?

Re: transducer mount

You can epoxy it to the floor, but it must be a direct shot through the transom. It will not pass through 2 layers of wood or fiberglass. Others have more experence in this installation, so I will leave it up to them to give you more advice. The bilge area may be an option..

Re: transducer mount

Anything between the acoustic window (the bottom of the transducer) and the water will degrade the performance of the transducer, often noticeably. There are transducers sold as in-hull mounted. They require a fluid medium between the acoustic window and the hull. See the faq (2nd and 4th questions) here before gluing your transducer to the floor:

http://www.airmar.com/faq/faq_index.html
