To shim or not to shim seems to be the question. If the transducer is not vertical, I will be reading the bottom several yards away from the boat. If i do shim, I may get bubbles that give a false reading. West Marine has no idea what to do. They say no amnufacturer makes any such a thing as a shim. So maybe I can find a block of plastic or aluminum since I have an aluminum hull and have it milled to the desired shape and size and angle which adds substantial cost to the deal or maybe someone has a suggestion or experience. Any ideas?

Re: Transducer

you want the transducer facing down  ... If it is at an angle you will get false readings. Depending on your boat and your boating needs, you might have incorrect readings when trolling but correct readings when at plane. Or vise versa... It depends on the boat. You might want to mount it to give you correct readings at idle, then when you are at plane and the boat is TRIMMED correctly you should also have correct readings.

Re: Transducer

What type of transducer do you have ? Any that I am familiar with are adjustable over quite a wide range to compensate for different transom angles. Does your transducer not have any adjustable mounting bracket ?
