Hi, I have very limited knowledge of inboard transmissions. Currently, though the inboard Volvo runs well, the boat (Ericson 30) does not move. I am hoping someone here can tell me what's going wrong.
In the past, the boat ran well, but eventually required a new control cable line. I wasn't not present for installation of said cable, but I'm told it took some "finagling" to get it in. However, it was deemed to be fine. But when we tested it, the prop would spin, but the boat would not move. As an aside, the prop was clean at the time of testing, not fouled and crusty as is shown in the following links.
Today I went to take another look at things. Here's what I see at the stuffing box: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzFc88zg6Tw&feature=youtu.be Considerable leaking when in forward, and I'm not sure the shaft was spinning faster when accelerating, even though the engine sounded louder.
So I jumped in the water to look at the prop while my mom shifted to forward, throttled up, back down to neutral, reverse, throttle, back to neutral. This is what I saw :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZqOJlsTbI8&feature=youtu.be.
But then when we went back to neutral, the prop kept slowly spinning, regardless of whether she shifted to forward, neutral, or reverse. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iT30JhOnuUk&feature=youtu.be Looking at the shaft inside the boat, we saw it slowly spinning (but at least not leaking).
Like I said, I don't know enough about this to know what's going on. Does anyone here have an idea?
