K! I built my transom! Now I need to install it. I I want to make sure that I don't have any gaps between the Transom and the fiberglass hull. What is the best adhesive to do this? I've heard of PL adhesive and I have a freind who thinks I should use Gorilla glue, but I dunno..... What do you guys recomend?
Thanx for your help.

Re: Transom adhesive

I find PL premium to be far better than gorilla. No contest.
PL allows 30 minute reposition time,
gorilla foams up and goes squishy if you touch it.

Take a tube of PL, cut the end off....the whole end of the tube...,
force the whole tube out with the gun and squeegee it around level, inser a new tube , apply some thick beads , do the same to the glass and go.

You'll probably need a few tubes.

Re: Transom adhesive

I used it for my transom just the other day ( and now I've got GALLONS of water in my hull because it just rained like crazy  )

I had to pull the hull into shape by the drain hole to get the outer skin to mesh with the transom wood....all is great one day later. PL premium will bite onto wood that has frost on it, so that should tell you something about it.

I'm bummed about all the water in the boat right now though....says 48 hr cure time, so I didn't want to keep that lower bolt out of the hull for drainage incase it wasn't cured enough to hold shape, which I can only assume the cure time is going to be longer because the solvents have less places to escape....

Re: Transom adhesive

Don't you have a bilge pump?
You could tilt the trailer nose down to move the water away from the transom too.

Re: Transom adhesive

I had the nose down as far as it could go...we got that much rain! I don't have a bilge pump...never did. That's on the list of things to get once the boat becomes a "floater" again.

I picked up a forstner bit set, a cheap plastic garboard drain plug kit and some 3M 5200 sealant and now the transom is set to go until I can get a stainless one ordered. I'm hoping to find resin locally tomorrow and get that transom COMPLETELY encapsulated and sealed sot hat I can start thinking about my stringers.
