I have an army surplus johnboat that has a straight up and down transom, I was told by the dealer that is selling me a motor that I need to have a 13 degree negative angle in order for the motor to operate correctly. Is there a product on the market that would give me that angle? I have seen the wedges but they only give 5 degree angles. My boat is a 18 ft. jon with a semi v front, it weighs 659 lbs empty, would a 60 hp be enough motor for this boat? I am brand new to the whole boat ownership thing and I can use all the help I can get. THANKS.

Re: Transom angle

Check out the Bob's Machine convertable jackplate. It can be configured with negative wedge. The website will give you all the details. wwwbobsmachine.com

Re: Transom angle

2 wedges would give 10 degrees 3 15. I would think 10 degrees would work.
Purpose of the angle is to give a full range of adjustment of the trim. You may need to be able to trim in in order to have ideal motor angle.
There is a chance it will be right without the angle.
If that is a bare bones boat it must be a brute I have 2 18 ft utilities one weighs the 275 the other 330.Your 60 will do fine my 50 easily planes my boat with over 1,200lbs of lumber and crew aboard.
