Transom crack... how do I fix it?

The previous owners towed the boat everywhere just using a wood block jammed betwen the engine and tilt bracket instead of a transom saver. The cracks extend down about 3" on either side of the engine, and only on the the upper/forward deck, not the lower/rear transom.

What is the recommended fix?

The crack has nothing to do with whether or not they used a transom saver, the wood is rotten and there's very little strength left in it. Like TD said, time to rebuild it.

Yeah I'd say the same your transom is shot.

The cracks are cause from it flexing not for trailering although it probably would have lasted a little longer with a transom saver it wouldn't have been much longer.

Check out some of the great threads on transom repair in the resto section.
