Hello everyone, new member here. I recently added an 83 Mercury 9.8 to my duck boat. The motor was a long shaft and hung down way too low on the boat. With the help of this forum I was able to construct a transom elevator.

I have posted some pics to give you an idea how to build a simple one for a small motor/boat such as mine. Total cost was about $41. This should do the job for now.

Re: Transom Elevator

Yep that looks like my plan, i would extend the outside legs further down, and put an backing block on the inside the transom, under the splash well. there is a lot of leverage there.

I agree with TD.
FWIW - It's probably too late, but I would have used a thicker angle iron, PT plywood, and tried to get her up just a little bit higher.

Re: Transom Elevator

Some of us have tackled this type of project before, and here is my solution.

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=269888&highlight=transom

As you can see from my pics, I like using longer and more heavy duty brackets
of aluminum. Although you are running a 10hp, you will be stressing the top
part of your transom with the raise. Longer angle pieces would spread the stress over more
of the transom area.
Iboats.com sells a bracket that would also work for what you want to do,
and it is not difficult to mount.

Good luck!
