there is a ground near my drain hole in my transom. what is it for? i remember hearing that it has something to do with the gas tank and spark prevention. my tank is all plastic, so maybe grounding's unnecessary. that said, do i need to ground it to anything else?
thanks

The zinc anode is used to prevent corrosion on your engine; it is not grounded to anything, do not paint it.

sure. my engine has a zinc trim tab under the cav plate, but i'm wondering about the plate mounted in my transom with bolt on the back of it for a wire lead mount. it goes thru into the bilge where a wire is attached-- i'm wondering what this wire is for. seems like some sort of sea ground, so to speak.
any ideas?

Does it look like this?

It's for attatching a heavy ga copper 'bond' wire to a metal fuel tank. Believe it's called a 'bonding lug'. Usually bronze, not zinc. It isn't an anode per se.

Regardless. Your plastic tank renders it obsolete.
