Transom Hole for OB Controls

I'm re-powering my 92 Olympic Resorter. It has an OB mounted on an extended transom. The original hole for OB controls is 4 1/2". I want to use the factory Suzuki OB control hose which is 2 1/2". I'm considering drilling a new hole and using the existing hole for just my kicker controls. Is this a good idea? If so, what is the best way to drill and seal the newly exposed wood in the transom? Lastly, while I have all the controls out, what is the best way to recondition the original 4 1/2" hole?

Seal the wood with resin, multiple coats of unwaxed resin is the easy way.
Home depot resin is waxed and needs sanding between layups, not much fun doing it that way. Try to keep the control pass thru as high as possible without binding the cables. Install rubber boots over the hole.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked and the original hole is 2 1/2", but the boot is 4 1/2". I still need another 2 1/2" hole to make the new suzuki install work correctly.
