Re: Transom pictures before/after
I cut the 3/16 plate the same size as the transom. I layed the plate between the two pieces of plywood with thickened epoxy between each, applied lots of weight and let it set for two days. Then two coats of epoxy on the outside and two coats of Spar Urethane to protect the finish. I use the slow hardener epoxy for a better job and no rush. I took it out on the Chesapeake Bay and the combination of 25 horses and this setup really screams. It comes out of the hole like a jet ski with almost no lag with me (245lbs) and two eleven year olds. SmokerCraft makes a sturdy boat and it feels great. The only thing I would say is the 20" transom makes more sense for any wave action. It isn't a problem because I am aware of the potential for following seas.
