Transom question...

I have a '92-25 Merc long shaft motor. Recently I "built up" the transom 5" on my 14' Starcraft open aluminum boat to accomodate it. Now water sprays into the boat at cruising speed..not real bad..mostly just annoying. Do you think I have the motor mounted an inch or so too high or too low? Am I right in assuming that the top of the transom should be 20" high, measured perpendicular to the center of the bottom of the boat. Should I take into consideration the keel, which runs the entire length of the boat and sticks down below the hull about an inch?
Changing the trim on the motor doesn't help.
Thanks
JD

Re: Transom question...

The anti ventilation plate of the motor ahould be 1-2 inches above the bottom of the hull.

Re: Transom question...

Is that what's also called the "anti-cavitation plate"? If so, mines too low. Much easier to raise it than to lower it.
Thanks

This is true except when it comes to flywheel tapershafts.
