Working on my transom rebuild for a 1993 18' Procraft. The original design of the transom had two 3/4" plywood laminated together. The plywood goes from the bottom of the transom area up until it is flush with the top of the hull. However, there is approximately a 1/2" or so gap (by design) that was filled with a rock hard white material between the top cap and hull. Then a strip of angled metal was riveted overtop of this.

I'm curious as what the white material is so I can get it ordered? It was also used at the top of the sponsom area where it came back to the transom, I'm guessing to strengthen the area. Here's some pictures to give you an idea.

It looks like a Two-part Methacyrlate Adhesive from here. You could replace it with epoxy putty.

Welcome to iBoats!

Here on the forum we call it Peanut Butter!!! Basically it's thickened Polyester or Epoxy resin. You make it my mixing 25% polyester/Epoxy resin, 50% cabosil, and 25% 1/4" Chopped Fiberglass Fibers until it's the consistency of Creamy peanut butter. Depending on your location you may or may not find these materials locally. Lot's of online sources www.uscomposites.com is a good one. Shipping costs are sometimes a bit prohibitive so finding a distributor as close as possible is advisable.

Thanks guys I have the stuff to make peanut butter, I just didn't think that's what this was. I can't see any fibers in the material but I guess it could be milled fibers.

I'm guessing the proper install technique will be to prep the area (top cap, hull and splashwell), position the top cap for install, coat it all with PB, then lower the top cap down and complete the install from there?

The angled strip of aluminum - would I install that prior to the PB curing? or let it cure drill a hole then screw everything tight?

Let it cure first IMHO.
