Hello all. I am rebuilding the transom of my 1978 Stinger bass boat. Replacing the plywood and all drains, strengthening stringers and such. I was wondering what is the best fiberglass material and weight to use? Mat or tight weave cloth? My understanding is that the tight weave is stronger, but is more expensive. I've done minimal fiberglass work in the past and just need a little coaching. Thanks in advance.

Polyester Resin, 1708 Fabric, 1.5oz Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) Not sure I understand "Strengthening Stringers" either they're good to go or need to be replaced.

Woodonglass,
Thanks for the info. The stringers are hollow. I was thinking about filling them with two-part structural foam for a little more strength. Do you think I would be wasting the money? The glass is solid and no cracks or peeling.

are they hollow because they were designed that way..... or are they hollow because the wood that was once in their rotted away.

if they were designed to be hollow, then its fine. if they were designed with wood in them..... then you replace them.

post a few more times, then upload pics.
