i have available to me a product that i can only describe as a polymer. the best description i have for it is, white and i have a cutting board in my kitchen that is the same stuff. it is 1/2 inch thick and i can stack 3 together to get the thickness i need. does anyone know what it is and is it going to be strong enough to use instead of 2 pieces of 3/4" plywood?

Sounds like Corian ( countertop material). If it is this I would say no, it'll crack. Just really hard to beat plywood for transom application.

the closest thing i can find to call it is a polypropylene "clicking board". is that what corian is?

If your cuttin board in the Kitchen is the same "stuff" then no. not good for a transom :) .

I have no idea what it is.

No its not as strong as ply..

its a 69 sprint V aluminum starcraft. I belive that i will stick with the plywood after all the old transom has lasted this long.

Correct, polypropylene it is.....you could use a slice of it as a motor transom pad, 1/2" is the perfect thickness, it does degrade with exposure to uv though (white) but may outlast what was there if kept covered up, i plan on replacing mine with some very soon.

EDIT: Correction, its actually polyethylene (PE) not polypropylene (PP).

I looked into using PE for stringers, but decided against it. The manufacturer I found, said that it wouldn't be a good fit because resin won't stick to it.

Re: transom repair materials

i have a cutting board in my kitchen that is about 1/2" thick, its white, and a "polymer".. its made of starboard. from what i understand nothing really sticks to it, even the stuff the manufacturer reccomends..

i dont know however, if either PP and/or PE is the same stuff as starboard
