Hi i have a 18' glass tex i believe its an apollo although the side says sea star. I feel like a moron only buying this boat a month ago and now the transom has busted through on the bottom side of where my power trim is. How can i fix this without breaking the bank? The guy at the local marina said the boat being a 1978 isnt worth it... He said if i do it ill have to separate the top from the hull of the boat. Is this true? He also said i Could put 1/4" aluminum on both sides of the transom and run it like that. Please help a NOOBIE haha.

Re: Transom repair

Putting the 1/4" aluminum on both sides is just a bandaid fix. If the motor already tore through the transom skin it is going to leak. You will have to remove the cap to redo the transom. Just be prepared to replace the deck and stringers as well. It will cost some money to get it repaired and many hours of your time. If you aren't very attatched to the boat you might be better off looking for another one. That's not to say the new one won't have the same problems. Whatever you choose to do we will be here to help you along.
